Dec 29, 2020 · I’ve compared it back and forth with a SMSL SH-9, based on flagship THX-AAA-888 modules and sometimes I’ve had a feeling that SH-9 was clearer and more transparent sounding, especially its treble delivery was sharper somehow, cymbals for example felt metallic with a very clean leading edge, whereas on A50S those weren’t that sharp and defied. Wonder how the Infineon chip that SMSL uses in their new SA300 and DA-8s performs. This unit has a claimed output power of 50 watts per channel. The other is a SUB output amplifier with PBTL connection. This amplifier features a power amplifier chip TPA3116D2 and output power of 50W x 2 (4Ω), driving speakers up to 50-80W/2Ω in mono. Will getting a better amp than the SMSL A50 yield noticably better results? It is a Sony CSS5 2.
